Bossy R Video

This week our focus is on r controlled vowels (bossy r). This is when a word contains a vowel followed by the letter r. The r tells the vowel which sound to make.

For example, the sound of each vowel changes from its original sound when an r follows after it.

er, ear, ir, and or all make the errr sound. (Our spelling words focus on these four categories. Have the kids sort the words for better understanding!)

e--> er     nerve

ear-->   early

i--> ir      third

o-->or       worm
